Local Elections Carlow and Kilkenny

Anyone who is a regular reader of this blog will remember my rant about Irish Politicians not using the web. It genuinely enrages me. I just cant get over the fact that there is such a massive communications tool available to them and they pretty much completely ignore it. It further enrages me whe I see Fianna Fáil decide “yeah, Barack did a great job, lets hire his people”. Sheesh, when I said utilise the web like Barack I didn’t mean to hire his effin people. I was going to blog about it at the time but then I came across this blog on Arekibo’s website and realised they had already said everything I wanted to say.

Here at t2 we have decided to make it easy for our local politicians. We have launched a website, www.localelections.iein asssociation with KCLR. We didn’t want to spook the politicians with mentions of online marketing campaigns or scary words like twitter so we have made it absolutely simple for them to boost their profile online and to communicate with the local electorate.

Localelections.ie is first and foremost an informational site. It gives information regarding the different boroughs and councils in the Carlow/Kilkenny region, the role of councillors, how you can register to vote and much more.

There are also 3 separate blogs integrated into the site: The Sue Nunn Blogtalks about the behind the scenes action in the run up to the local elections. Sue Nunn is a presenter on KCLR andis experienced in gettingnational coverageon politicaltopics. An example would bethis article on the Irish Independent website “Fine Gael TD got passports for foreigners Phil Hogan admits helping in sale to foreign nationals — but doesn’t know who they were”The other two blogs are The Hustings Blog Kilkenny and The Hustings Blog Carlow. Both are written by anonymous contributers. I don’t even know who they are, all I know is they are both highly respected individuals from the worlds of journalism and politics. If you discover their true identities let me know.

The other main focus of the website is on the candidates who are running for local election. We have created an area for each candidate to profile themselves, tell the electorate what their stances are on local and national issues and to communicate directly with the general public. Now all we have to do is to get the lads to sign up to it.

KCLR, our partners in crime, are promoting this website. We genuinely feel it’s a great resource for people in the Carlow Kilkenny area and urge all candidates running to get involved. All feedback is received with open ears so let us know what you think.
